Director of Photography Bengt Jönsson has pursued his visual craft since his early interest in cameras and photography. He was raised surrounded by art, architecture, the museums of the world. Fluent in the language of images, he knew that filmmaking, and specifically cinematography were his calling when he discovered American Cinematographer magazine at 13 years old. Living abroad and becoming fluent in languages has taught him the value of people and the beauty of their common life experiences. Bengt is an American filmmaker with European sensibilities influenced by both his Swedish father and his American mother.
After finishing his graduate cinematography fellowship at the American Film Institute Conservatory, Bengt immediately began shooting music videos, commercials, television, and feature films in Los Angeles, and around the world.
Over his 25+ year career he has shot many hundreds of commercials – one campaign won the Silver Lion at Cannes. He dreams in 30 second visions.
Bengt’s happy place is narrative story telling. Recently, he has spent hot months in Tennessee shooting the bio-feature Grounded. He has also completed additional photography on The Locksmith – starring Ryan Phillippe. Also, he has spent time shooting tests in the frigid Colorado snow prepping for the upcoming feature Hunker. He has crafted the dark, claustrophobic visual texture of ATM, and his work on Bones, American Horror Story, Dwight in Shining Armor, Gone, and Yellowstone have allowed him to work with visionary producers and directors who consistently seek to repeat the experience of working with Bengt.
Delivering high quality, visually rich images in a spirit of collaboration is what has set Bengt apart and has kept him busy for decades.
